As Cailleach’s frosted dreams flow into Brigid’s fiery awakening…
we gather to remember the timeless traditions of Imbolc.
Join us for a nourishing Celtic ritual revived —
the creation of the Brat Bhríde, or Brigid’s Cloak.
This blessed cloth’s lore traces back to Brigid, the Saint & Goddess herself. Legend tells that she transformed her modest cloak into a vast expanse of fabric, covering the fertile fields of Kildare and marking the land as her sacred sanctuary.
Imbolc, the Gaelic festival heralding spring’s arrival, is also known as Imbolg or Oimelc. As the first milk flows from mother ewes and snowdrops push through the earth, the Cailleach, the old crone goddess, sheds her winter cloak and emerges as Brigid, youthful and radiant, breathing fresh new life into the land.
The name Imbolc is believed to come from the Old Irish words “i mbolc,” meaning “in the belly,” referring to a time when the Earth stirs with new life.
Old stories speak of Brigid, the beloved goddess, passing over the land when Imbolc’s first dawn rays caress the earth. With her gentle touch, she bestows blessings upon the cloaks left out in reverence on St. Brigid’s Eve.
Throughout the turning of the wheel, they are used to ward off illness, shield travelers on their journeys, and summon fertility and blessings to the land, weaving magic into the very fabric of life.
In this time of renewal and rebirth, we gather to embroider our own Brat Bhríde, infusing each stitch with blessings and intentions.
With reverence and joy, we honor the healing wisdom of our ancestors and celebrate the eternal cycles of life.
The Craft
In this workshop, you will learn a beginner-friendly stitch, embroidering spirals onto a cloth of your choice.
While the craft is simple, it is the intention and connection with Brigid that brings the magic, as we will discover together.
Upon registration, you’ll receive a list of simple materials (under $10 total) that you will need to gather before our live Imbolc celebration.
Suggested Materials (Also sent out upon registration):
- Cloth of your choice
- Needle & Thread/Yarn
- Embroidery Hoop
Registration will close on the night of Wednesday, January 29th.
The night before we gather, we’ll each leave a scarf or fabric outdoors to collect dew—and also, as it’s said, the blessings of Brigid as she passes over the land.
Come & stitch your love into a Brat Bhríde!

Our Guest Teacher

IRELAND
Rita O'Loughlin
Rita O’Loughlin is passionate about Irish heritage and local communities. Originally from Dublin, she moved to Portarlington, Co. Laois, 20 years ago, calling it “a small town with a huge heart.”
With support from the Port Art Collective, Rita founded the award-winning @mybratbhride, inspired by the Brat Bhride tradition passed down from her mother. Together, they upcycled scarves into Brigid healing shawls, a practice once common in rural Ireland.
After her mother’s passing, Rita launched a voluntary initiative to teach people of all ages how to create their own brat bhride from preloved scarves. The project has thrived, promoting the tradition in schools, women’s sheds, rehab centers, libraries, and festivals across Ireland.

Our Host

FOUNDERESS
Greetings, I'm Hanna Leigh
This organization, Weaving Remembrance, was birthed through my own passion to to reclaim ancestral wisdom and connect with the indigenous spirit of the “Great Sacred Motherland of Europe” – a term I first heard from activist Lyla June.
It is an honor to sit with wisdom keepers, song carriers and storytellers from around Europe, and we invite you to come along for the journey!
An Invitation
On Lá Fhéile Bríde, this sacred Brigid’s Day, we extend a heartfelt invitation to you.
Together, we will stitch our prayers and dreams into a Brat Bhríde, a sacred & healing cloak that will carry us through the seasons ahead.
May we emerge from this gathering with hearts ablaze, ready to carry the light of Brigid into the world, a beacon of hope and healing for all.
